As the leaves turn and the harvest reaches its peak, I find myself drawn to the simple, sustaining pleasures of the season: freshly gathered produce, warm kitchens, and meals prepared with care. The following is a piece I wrote for my local, independently-owned health food store, and it’s currently featured in their seasonal Zine. In it I share one of my most treasured Autumn rituals with you, inspired by the philosophy in my book Soul-Full Eating.
For me, food is more than sustenance. It’s a way to slow down, be present, and fold love into every step. This time of year, I’m especially mindful to support local farms and food businesses. I encourage you to do the same whenever possible. (Even if that just means lingering a while longer in the produce aisle to take in all the textures and colors, sending a prayer of appreciation to the many hands responsible for this bounty.) Think of your love, attention, and dollars as a fertilizer—wherever you put them today, things flourish and grow tomorrow.
I hope the following glimpse into my kitchen inspires you to savor not just the flavors of the season, but the care and connection behind them.
Enjoy!

Autumn’s Soul-Full Soup
Featured in the Fall 2025 edition of the Cambridge Naturals Zine
“Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun…” —John Keats
Each Fall, I visit nearby organic farms and gather what the season offers—sweet carrots, earthy beets, hearty squash, fragrant leeks. All destined for a great simmering pot.
As the soup bubbles on the stove, its aroma carries more than comfort. It holds the whisper of soil, sun, and the hands that tended the harvest. I prepare pot after pot, freezing portions for the months ahead, so when winter winds arrive and colds threaten, nourishment is waiting.
But the true recipe is more than ingredients. It is Soul-Full Eating in practice:
Eat with Love, what’s grown with Love, prepared with Love, and served with Love.
Every spoonful is a reminder: the earth sustains us when we honor her gifts; our bodies thrive when we choose presence over haste; and Love, when folded into food, is the most healing ingredient of all.
This Fall, may your kitchen become a sanctuary of gratitude. May every meal ground you in the miracle of nourishment, and may you taste, in every bite, the blessing of being alive.

Soul-Full Fall Vegetable Soup Ingredients (organic, seasonal if possible):
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 large leek, chopped
- 3 carrots, sliced
- 2 parsnips, sliced
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 potatoes or 1 small winter squash, cubed
- 1 large sweet potato, cubed
- 1 beet, peeled and cubed (optional, for color and depth)
- 8 cups vegetable broth
- ¼ cup of nutritional yeast (optional)
- Sea salt and cracked black pepper to taste
- 1 bundle of fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, sage, parsley, tied with twine, from your garden if possible)

Instructions:
- Warm olive oil in a large soup pot over medium heat. Add onion, carrots, parsnips, and celery. Sauté until fragrant.
- Stir in potatoes or squash, beet, and broth. Bring to a gentle boil.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until vegetables are tender (25–30 minutes).
- Nestle the herb bundle into the pot for the last 10 minutes of cooking, releasing its garden-fresh aroma. Remove bundle before serving.
- Season to taste, add (optional) nutritional yeast and enjoy now—or freeze in portions for winter’s cold and flu season.
